Ostrava, 5 August – The European FFplus initiative is looking for innovative companies and start-ups. It will distribute EUR 8 million to selected companies that decide to use a supercomputer to address their needs. The initiative is aimed at businesses with no previous experience in supercomputing or those active in the artificial intelligence (AI) field. The companies will receive not only financial support but also access to supercomputing infrastructure and expert advice from HPC experts.

New web server aids research into neurodegenerative diseases
Ostrava, 16 July 2024 – Protein aggregation is a complex biological process linked to various devastating human diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Accurate prediction of protein aggregation propensity is crucial for developing effective treatments and prevention strategies. To address this challenge, researchers from IT4Innovations at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, in collaboration with the International Clinical Research Centre and Masaryk University (MU), have launched AggreProt, a novel web server designed to predict protein aggregation.

Quantum simulator on the Karolina supercomputer
IT4Innovations introduces a novelty in quantum computing on the Karolina and Barbora supercomputers: the NVIDIA CUDA Quantum simulator. This tool simplifies the development of hybrid applications and significantly increases quantum computing productivity and scalability. It allows 30 qubits to be simulated on a single GPU of the Karolina supercomputer and is available to all IT4Innovations users running an active project.
Another Czech supercomputer ends in Silicon Heaven
Ostrava, 24 June 2024 – The Czech supercomputer Salomon is leaving the data room of IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center, part of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, for good. At its launch, the supercomputer was ranked 40th on the TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers. During its operation, it performed more than 8.7 million computational tasks across 1,085 research projects in areas such as materials science, life sciences and engineering. These jobs consumed 1,024 million core hours of computing time.

Employees of research organisations based in the Czech Republic can submit applications for computing time on the Karolina, Barbora, LUMI supercomputers and NVIDIA DGX-2 system until 30 July 2024. We will announce the competition's results in September.
HPCSE 2024: Meeting of Top Experts in High-Performance Computing in the Beskydy Mountains
The HPCSE 2024 (High Performance Computing in Science and Engineering) conference, which hosted 85 participants, was held in the beautiful surroundings of the Beskydy Mountains from 20 to 23 May. IT4Innovations organised this event to bring together international experts from various fields, such as HPC, applied mathematics, numerical analysis, data analysis, machine learning, quantum computing, and advanced visualisation. The conference provided a platform for sharing experience and ideas and initiating new research collaborations.
IT4Innovations and the EVEREST project partners released an open-source System Development Kit
IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center has been involved in the EVEREST project, funded by the Horizon 2020 program, for the past three and a half years. The project, which brought together ten partners from industry, industrial research laboratories, and academia across six European countries – announces the first public release of its open-source System Development Kit (EVEREST SDK). The EVEREST SDK integrates tools to simplify the deployment of applications on heterogeneous high-performance cloud infrastructure, especially for environments offering FPGA acceleration.
Tenth anniversary of IT4Innovations' participation in Europe's largest supercomputing event
The world's oldest and Europe's most important HPC conference – ISC High Performance – was held in Germany. Its history dates back more than 30 years. IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center had its first booth at this conference in Leipzig in 2014.
IT4Innovations to take part in the biggest European supercomputing event of the year
Europe's largest supercomputing conference – ISC 2024 – will take place in Hamburg, Germany.
The theme of this year's event, which is expected to attract around 3,000 visitors from 51 countries, is 'Reinventing HPC'. The conference will be held from 12 to 16 May.
The Karolina supercomputer back in operation
The Karolina supercomputer underwent a software upgrade. This upgrade was essential to ensure compatibility with new versions of tools and applications, essentially resulting in a re-installation of the Karolina supercomputer.

A new method to improve the safety and reliability of autonomous driving thanks to the EXA4MIND project
IT4Innovations national supercomputing center has been coordinating the EXA4MIND project since January last year. The consortium consists of ten partners from six European countries. Among the partners are the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics at the Czech Technical University (CIIRC CTU) and Valeo.ai company, which have now introduced a new method to search image data from autonomous vehicles using natural language.
Ostrava hosted a unique meeting dedicated to carbon dots
The NanoLumCat Ostrava 2024 workshop brought significant findings in the field of carbon dots and single-atom catalysis for renewable energy sources. Participants learned about the latest scientific advances and discussed the possibilities of new technologies in the field of nanomaterials for sustainable development. This was one of the world's most significant meetings on this topic, and participants left with new insights and inspiration for their future work.
